Collaboration and career exploration were at the center of learning this week at Eddie Dixon CTE. Electrical students shared their skills with Diversified Agriculture students by teaching them how to take precise measurements. This gave Electrical students an opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge while helping Agriculture students apply accurate measurement to their own hands-on projects.

Health Science and Multimedia students also worked together in a real-world clinic simulation. Health Science students managed patient intake, patient flow, triage, screenings, and professional patient care. Multimedia students participated as patients while learning the importance of accurately completing legal documents and healthcare paperwork.

Educator Preparation students explored potential next steps in their education during a visit to the University of Mississippi. Students learned more about the university’s education program and the opportunities available to prepare for careers in teaching.

As the first quarter comes to an end, students can be proud of the skills, experiences, and professional growth they have gained, and can now look forward to a well-earned fall break.

Around Our Programs

Advanced Manufacturing

Advanced Manufacturing student practicing with hand toolsStudents continued to practice and strengthen their advanced manufacturing skills. They applied precise measurement, cutting, and welding techniques.

Diversified Agriculture

Agriculture students collaborating

Diversified Agriculture students learned about Mississippi’s wildlife and natural habitats. They discussed the animals found in these habitats, the conditions those animals need to survive, and the threats that can endanger them. Students then took their studies outside, where they could apply their knowledge in a real-world environment.

Educator Preparation

Educator Preparation students spent time in the field applying what they have learned. They assisted elementary students with reading comprehension and literacy development while gaining firsthand experience working in an elementary classroom.

Students also visited the University of Mississippi to learn more about its education program and explore potential next steps toward a career in teaching.

Electrical

Electrical student demonstrating precise measurement

As Electrical students advanced their knowledge of hand tools, they put their skills to the test by completing the NCCER Hand Tools performance assessment. This experience prepares students for future situations in which proper tool selection, handling, and safety will be essential in the electrical field.

Electrical students also practiced leadership and communication by teaching Diversified Agriculture students how to take precise measurements.

Health Science

Health Science students participated in a clinic simulation designed to mirror a real healthcare environment. Students practiced managing patient intake, patient flow, conducting screenings, completing triage, protecting confidential patient information, and working at the reception desk. The simulation gave students an opportunity to experience how different responsibilities work together to keep a clinic operating professionally and efficiently.

Multimedia

Multimedia students conducting an interview.

Multimedia Year 1 students practiced completing quality work within a short time frame. Working under a deadline helps students build a strong foundation for future projects and prepares them to complete professional assignments efficiently.

Year 2 students practiced conducting interviews while working with lighting. As they recorded their interviews, students learned how to use lighting techniques to highlight their subjects and create a polished, professional appearance.

Multimedia students also participated in the Health Science clinic simulation. While serving as patients, students learned about the importance of legal documents and practiced completing patient paperwork accurately.
